SUMMITT FAMILY HISTORY
In 1753, Jacob Sammet brought his family to Philadelphia from Germany aboard the HMS Beaula. In 1970, my grandfather, Chester Alba Summitt, died and I ended up with a family Bible. That Bible had been owned by my Great-Great-Grandmother Betty S. Butler Summit. That Bible began my life-long interest in my family history. Between 1995 and 2005, my wife and I published The Summitt Family Quarterly, available for download here. We hosted a site for the Quarterly for about the same period of time. The link shows the Quarterly site from 2001. Since Jacob, the last name has been written with both one t and two ts. Almost every person with this last name that I have ever met I have been able to connect back to Jacob.
The line between Jacob Sammet and myself starts with
- my father, Chester Moody Summitt
- Chester Alba Summitt. my grandfather
- James Lee Summitt; my great-grandfather
- Jonathan Summit; my great-great-grandfather
- Daniel Summit, Sr., my great-great-great-grandfather
- Francis Summit (Johan Franz Sammet) my great-great-great-great-grandfather
- and my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, Jacob Sammet
